The William Morris Roller Blind takes the same archive prints as the roman version and applies them to a flat roller, sold made-to-measure by Blinds 2go. There are 90 designs, from £20.20, including the much-reproduced Strawberry Thief alongside Willow Bough, Acanthus and Pimpernel. The roller format gives these patterns a cleaner, more contemporary presentation than the soft fold of a roman - the design sits flat against the glass, uninterrupted by pleats.
Who it suits
This is the William Morris option for a more modern room, or for a window where a roman's stacked fabric would be fussy. The flat roller shows a print as a single uninterrupted panel, which suits the bolder, more graphic Morris designs - Strawberry Thief in particular reads well this way. It works in living rooms, bedrooms, studies and hallways.
As with any standard roller, the fabric is a woven polyester rather than a wipe-clean coating, so it is not the choice for a kitchen or bathroom. And a roller offers no slat-angle control - it is either down, up, or somewhere between - so if you want to admit light at an angle while keeping the pattern in view, a roman or a venetian would serve better.
A roller's advantage over the roman is stacking: when raised, the fabric wraps onto a tube at the top and all but disappears, so you keep the full window. On a short window where daylight is precious, that makes the roller the more practical William Morris choice.
The prints
90 colours available
The selection leans into the recognisable Morris motifs. Strawberry Thief appears in three colourways - Indigo Blue, Jewel and Harissa Red - which between them cover a cool, a rich and a warm reading of the same famous design. Willow Bough comes in mink, jade, porcelain, onyx and a blush, so you can take it light or dark. The Acanthus and Pimpernel designs round out the heritage end. There is no truly neutral option here; even the palest colourways carry a full botanical print, so this is a decorative choice rather than a quiet one.
Price by your dimensions
Made to measure from £20.20. Check Blinds 2go for the price at your exact window size.
Prints start from £20.20, a little below the roman version of the same range - the flat roller is simpler to make than a lined, rod-pocketed roman. Enter your width and drop for the made-to-measure price, which rounds up to the next standard size as Blinds 2go quotes it.
How it compares
Against the William Morris roman, the roller is cheaper, hangs flatter and stacks away more completely, at the cost of the roman's softer, more traditional drape. The deciding factor is the room: a period sitting room tends to suit the roman, a contemporary or compact room the roller.
Against a plain roller, you are again choosing a focal point over a backdrop. A Morris print will dominate a small window, so it is best used where you want the window to carry the room's pattern rather than recede. If the design feels too strong for the space, the lighter recolours (Willow Porcelain, Acanthus Celadon) are the gentler way in.
Fittings for this fabric
The same fabric and blind type is sold in more than one fitting:
- Standard from £13.72 fixed with drilled brackets
- No-drill (twist-fit) from £15.80 about +£11 on the standard blind clips onto a UPVC frame, no screws
No-drill and clip-in fittings suit UPVC windows and renters, but they cap out at the largest window sizes - check the maximum drop before ordering for a tall window.
The same William Morris designs, at several retailers
William Morris roller blinds are sold by more than one UK retailer, so the same designs turn up under each shop's own range. They differ in construction, colourway and fitting, so it pays to compare on more than price:
- Blinds 2go this page from £13.72 woven jacquard
- Blinds By Post from £16.80 printed (At Home)
Designs carried by more than one of these retailers include Acanthus, Fruit, Marigold, Pimpernel, Strawberry Thief, Sunflower, Tulip and Willow Bough.
These are the same designs rather than guaranteed identical blinds - one retailer may weave a jacquard where another prints the pattern, and colourways and fittings vary. Check the specific design, colour and fitting at each retailer before buying.
